Walkin To Paradise

Aloha! “Walkin to Paradise-Step It Stout 2009” is just the ticket to beat the winter blahs.

Thank you for your interest and participation in this program. It should be a fun and challenging journey through the beaches, mountains, and rainforests of the Hawaiian Islands. We are taking the “virtual” walk through the islands of Maui, Lanai, Oahu, Hawaii, Molokai, and Kauai.

Our 7 week journey will begin in Honolulu on the island of Oahu on February 2nd and end on March 20th. At the end of journey we will have a Luau Celebration. Plan to join us for lunch, prizes, and celebration with all the other teams.

  • This is a team event.

  • Each team consists of 3 members with one person designated as a captain. Teammates can be old or new friends, roommates, faculty/staff member, etc. however members must be currently enrolled/employed at UW-Stout.

  • If you don’t have a team, you still can register and we will place you on a team.

  • The Team Captain is responsible for reporting the team’s steps online to Ashley Oppriecht oppriechta@uwstout.edu prior to the following Wednesday for the team to be eligible for weekly prize drawings.

  • Please register using the attached form. Completed registration form and $5 fee can be mailed or dropped of at Rm 41 Sports & Fitness Center-by February 2, 2009.

The registration fee for this program includes pedometer, tote, t-shirt and Passport Booklet. The pedometer, tote and passport booklet can be picked up at the UW Stout Health & Fitness Center beginning January 26th. T-shirts will be ordered following the completion of the event’s registration. Your team captain will be notified via email when the t-shirts are ready for distribution.

The total journey is approximately 750 miles or 1,500,000 steps. This averages 500,000 steps per team member or 10,612 steps per day (2000 steps = 1 mile).

Alternative activities, such as climbing, weight lifting, swimming, basketball, have been converted into steps for your use as well. These figures are located in your passport booklet.
